Defending champions suffered a blow after Asia Cup was shifted to UAE from India after the government opposed BCCI of hosting Pakistan team in the country following cross border tensions. This forced Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to shift the matches to the neutral venue of UAE. This may be a major blow for India as the men in blue haven’t featured in the Central Asian country for a while which can be a big concern for the team management.
India will kickstart their campaign against Sri Lanka on 18 September, three days after the start of the tournament.
Here’s shedding lights on 2 reasons why India may not win Asia Cup 2018.
Unavailability of Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli has taken the charge of the team at the UK tour and the work burden of the India skipper is surely on a heavy side. He lead the team in 2 T20s against Ireland followed by 3 T20s and 3 ODIs against England where he had a big role to play. Unfortunately, after winning two T20 series, India lost the ODI series 2-1 which brought the focus to the test series. Virat Kohli turned out to be the leading run-getter in the test series but India lost it 3-1, with the last test scheduled in Oval.
Selectors gave him the rest for an all important Asia Cup with a busy cricket calendar scheduled for later this year but it may affect India’s chances in the Asian cricketing extravaganza.
Virat Kohli possess the ability to turn the game on its own and India will thoroughly miss a game changer in their line-up.
However, there might be an added opportunity for the youngsters like KL Rahul and Manish Pandey to step in and play an influential role.
