From 2007 to 2018, here's reliving MS Dhoni's journey as a captain

Mahendra Singh Dhoni today captained India for the record 200th time as he also became the oldest captain to lead India at the age of 37 years, 2 months and 18 days. Both Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan were rested for dead rubber against Afghanistan which meant that Dhoni donned the captaincy hat after 696 days.

The man from Ranchi has been a magical captain for India, having all the ICC trophies in his cabinet. On this day, let’s go down memory lane and relive MS Dhoni’s journey as the captain.

1- Dhoni was made to lead a young Indian side for 2007 World T20 with all the big boys rested. The young skipper lead India to triumph in the inaugural edition of the world cup and it sensed that a miraculous man is set to take Indian cricket forward.

He has played 93* T20s for India and captained the side in 72 matches in which he won 41 matches as a skipper.

2– The miraculous man from Ranchi continued his magic and lead the Indian team to triumph in 2008 Commonwealth Bank Series in Australia.

3– He was made the test captain in November 2008 after regular skipper Anil Kumble was injured for the fourth test and announced his retirement. India went onto win the match by 172 runs and clinched the series 2-0 as Dhoni made his arrival in style in whites.

He went on to feature in 90 tests for India and scored 4,876 runs at an average of 38.09.
