Shikhar Dhawan has played some see-saw battle with his form. The southpaw from Delhi failed to create an impact in England which draw criticism and his place was doubted in the team but then his form in the Asia Cup has shut the critics completely.
The return of form may be enough to get him a place in the test team for home series against West Indies but if the reports are to be believed then he is all set to get sidelined from the test squad. Selectors may show faith in Prithvi Shaw who is having a dream run in Vijay Hazare trophy playing for Mumbai. Mayank Agarwal, who was the top run score in 2017-18 Ranji season may finally make it into the team after impact performance for India A.
A report in Indian Express suggests that Shaw may get his chance in place of Dhawan.
The selection committee was originally scheduled to pick the squad for the two-match series on Wednesday but it was postponed as the committee is waiting for a fitness update on Ishant Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin.
Both the players will undergo a fitness test on Sunday.
Expected team
Murali Vijay who was believed to have played his last test match for India after poor performance in England is likely to return after his dream run in English county.
Virat Kohli will return to lead the side and will be India’s strength in middle-order alongside Ajinkya Rahane and Rishabh Pant. Other backup options may include Hanuma Vihari and Karun Nair.
There is no update on Hardik Pandya’s availability and it is likely that selectors will give him more rest with an all important Australia tour ahead.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar is expected to lead the pace attack alongside Jasprit Bumrah.
Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav are two sure pick in the squad.
