Stat Alert: West Indies lose plot on third day as India register a dominant 10 wickets victory

India put on a tremendous show to win the second test in Hyderabad by a dominant 10 wickets to win the two-match test series 2-0.

West Indies are yet to win a test series in India since 1984 and this is India’s 7th consecutive test series win against Windies at home.

This was India’s 10th consecutive test series win at home since 2013.

This was India’s 21st consecutive test win over West Indies and the latter team are yet to win a test match against men in blue since 2002.

West Indies 1st innings

West Indian opening combination of Kraigg Braithwaite and Kieran Powell put up a 32-run stand for the first wicket before India initially suffered the first blow of the match as debutant Shardul Thakur’s groin injury came into play and he had to be sidelined for whole of the test match. Someone’s misery turned out to be someone’s opportunity as Umesh Yadav turned out to be the lone fast bowler for India and picked six wickets in the innings.

Kuldeep Yadav and R. Ashwin dismantled the Windies top order and Umesh went through the visitors lower order. Roston Chase (106) scored his second test century against India to take West Indies total to 311/10.

India’s 1st innings

Prithvi Shaw(70), KL Rahul(4) put up a 61 runs stand for the first wicket to give a good start to Indian innings. Hosts lost three wickets in the succession of 40 runs as Prithvi Shaw, KL Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara(10) were dismissed and the score reached 102/3. Virat Kohli(45) and Ajinkya Rahane(80) put up a 50 run stand before the former batsman was dismissed to put India in some sort of bother.

Rishabh Pant(92) and Ajinkya Rahane then turned the complexion of the match and put up an innings turning partnership of 154 run to lessen the deficit of the lead.

The duo came out to bat on the third day of the test match but Windies bowler came up with a plan and dismissed six Indian batsman in just 53 runs as the host team got bundled out on 367/10 and took an important 56 runs lead. Windies skipper Jason Holder rock-shocked the Indian lower order and picked five wickets in the innings

West Indies 2nd innings

The visiting team were looking for a comeback in the match but they suffered a blow when both their openers were dismissed for a duck. Shai Hope(28) and Shimron Hetmyer(17) put up a 39 run stand to close out on the lead before both the batsmen were dismissed on the score of 45.

Sunil Ambris(38) showed some resistance alongside Roston Chase(6) but both the batsman were clean bowled by Umesh Yadav. West Indies lower middle order failed to put up a show and got bundled out on 127 runs as India needed 72 runs to win the match.

India 2nd innings

It only took 16.1 for India to reach the target as Prithvi Shaw(33) completed the winning shot with KL Rahul(33) on the other end.

Umesh Yadav was adjudged man of the match for picking 10 wickets in the test match and Prithvi Shaw was adjudged man of the series for being the highest run getter in the series(237 runs in 3 innings)
