Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan is set to play for his home franchise Delhi Daredevils after a gap of 11 years. There were speculations of the southpaw joining Kings XI Punjab for the upcoming IPL season but the Delhi based franchise were smart enough to trade him from Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Dhawan was part of the Delhi team in the inaugural season of the league before he moved to Mumbai Indians and then finally to Deccan Chargers(Renamed: Sunrisers Hyderabad).
Dhawan was send to the season 11 auction after Sunrisers Hyderabad refused to retain him and he was eventually bought by Kings XI Punjab for a sum of 5.2 crore rupees but Sunrisers claimed the right to match card on him to retain his services.
It is learned that the southpaw from Delhi had some issues with the Hyderabad based franchise as they didn’t retain him for season 10 and was just priced at 5.2 crore rupees.
A smart move by Sunrisers Hyderabad
Delhi Dardevils got the services of Shikhar Dhawan in exchange of three players who got to Sunrisers Hyderabad. The move can be termed as a smart step by Hyderabad based franchise who got the services of Abhishek Sharma, Shahbaz Nadeem and Vijay Shankar.
Nadeem recently impressed in the Vijay Hazare trophy for Jharkhand and later continued his good show in Deodhor trophy which encouraged the selectors to hand him a debut call-up in India’s T20 squad for Windies series.
Vijay Shankar has been an asset for the Tamil Nadu and SRH will get another handy all-rounder in their team.
Abhishek Sharma is a young and upcoming talent who was part of India U19 team that won the world cup this year. He can bring his all-round abilities into play for Tom Moody’s team.
