Manipuri mid-fielder Chinglensana Singh was in and out of the Indian team but his career defining performances in the 2016 edition of the Hockey India League brought the attention of selectors towards him and he became the regular member of the team. The 26-years-old created the magic with the stick playing for Dabang Mumbai in Hockey India League(HIL) and scored several goals which were sheer magic of the stick with added skills.

The lad from Manipur is now the vice captain of the Indian team and will next feature in the all important hockey world cup which begins on November 28 in Bhubaneswar.

Singh addressed the media at Kalinga stadium and said that the team needs to overcome the bitterness that has got to them courtesy of some unexpected results in the year and need to focus on the world cup.

“The past three months, in particular, has been very challenging for us with the training intensifying as it’s important for us to peak at the World Cup. The team is aware that this year could have been much better for us in terms of results but now is the time to do away with the bitterness of the past performances by doing well at the prestigious event,” said Chinglensana.

Dilpreet Singh is the only player in the team who is not aware of the loud and roaring crowd of hockey lovers in Odisha but Chinglensana feels that its an advantage that almost all the players in the team have played Hockey India League and are aware of the crowd that comes to support in Kalinga stadium.

“It is an advantage that almost everyone in the team has the experience of playing top-quality matches in the Kalinga Stadium during the Hockey India League and are aware of the atmosphere the fans create here.”

Chinglensana will play his 200th game for India when the team opens its campaign against South Africa in the world cup.
