Glenn McGrath predicts the winner and finalist of World Cup 2019

The build to the upcoming cricket world cup has allready started with all the 10 participating teams making sure that they get the right combination before the start of the marquee event. The world cup will get underway from May 30 and will continue till July 14.

England are the firm favourites to lift the trophy, however some experts claim India to be a force to reckon with alongside Australia who are high in confidence after pipping India 3-2 in India and clean sweeping Pakistan 5-0 in United Arab Emirates(UAE). The returning Steve Smith and David Warner will add more strength to the team.

Glenn McGrath predicts the winner

The former Australian International opined that England are the firm favourites to win the upcoming edition of the world cup.

“You’ve got to go on current form. The England team — the way they go about it, they have impressed me. They have scored some big, big totals. Most teams used to go hard in the first 15 and the last 15, and consolidate in the middle. But teams like England, India are just going hard the whole 50 overs, and that’s the impact T20 cricket has had.

“They are the favourites and are going to be tough to beat in their own conditions, but fingers crossed, Australia can do well,” McGrath told ESPNcricinfo.

McGrath backs Australia to reach the finals

The veteran of 250 ODIs said that South Africa are a strong team and West Indies will be the dark horses of the tournament as they are way too inconsistent in terms of result. McGrath further said that England and India are tough to beat but backed Australia to make the finals, considering their current form.

“I was a little bit concerned how Australia were going to go, but their form of late has really impressed me. They’ve performed really well in conditions that are not suited to them, so that bodes well for their chances. I’d like to think that they’ll make the finals. India are a quality one-day unit as well. They’ll be in the running,” McGrath said.
