The world is gearing up for the world’s biggest cricket extravaganza- cricket world cup which starts on 30th May with hosts and firm favourites England taking on a strong South Africa in the tournament opener. India have won the trophy two times but the first victory, under the leadership of Kapil Dev was truly inspirational as the Indian team didn’t possess heavyweight names back then.
Kapil Dev’s captaincy and rescuing the team from the tricky situations was the main reason why India won the world cup and the inspiring story will finally be put in a biopic.
Biopic on cricketer MS Dhoni, sprinter Milkha Singh and boxer Mary Kom has garnered all the applause and also increased the popularity of these star athletes. Now Ranveer Singh has geared up to take the story of Kapil Dev on the big screen.
Ranveer Singh to play Kapil Dev in a biopic
Ranveer Singh left for England for the shooting of the biopic but dropped an Instagram post which revealed the full cast of the movie. The onscreen team will shoot at the real locations, where India team triumphed in 1983 world cup. To make the things look more real, the cast traveled in a team bus together and reached Mumbai airport before boarding the flight to England.

Saqib Saleem will play the role of Mohinder Amarnath, Adinath Kothare will play the role of Dilip Vengsarkar, Chirag Patil will play the role of Sandip Patil, Jatin Sarna will play the role of Yashpal Sharma and Sahil Khattar will play the role of Syed Kirmani. Harddy Sandhu, Ammy Virk, Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Dinker Sharma, Jiiva, Dhairya Karwa, Nishant Dahhiya and R Badree will also portray the role of other world cup winning members of 1983.
The preparations for the biopic
The entire cast of the biopic participated in a preparatory camp in Dharamshala where they underwent the training to polish their cricketing skills and learn the basics of the game. Kapil Dev and some other cricketers were present at the venue to guide the entire cast.
Ranveer Singh stayed with Kapil Dev in Delhi to understand the former captain in a better way which will help him portray his role in a superior way.
“83” The film is scheduled to release on 10 April, 2020 and the shooting of the movie is expected to start from June 5, the same date when India will start its world cup campaign against South Africa in Southampton.
