BCCI writes a letter to ICC, asks to let MS Dhoni wear army “sacrifice” badge

India started their world cup campaign on a high note after they pipped an under lying South Africa in Southampton on June 5. However, despite the reason of triumph, the discussion is revolving around the insignia of the Indian Para Special Forces which MS Dhoni was donning on his wicket-keeping gloves, during the course of India’s fielding period.

‘Balidaan Badge’ was spotted on MS Dhoni’s gloves when he stumped a dangerous looking Andile Phehlukwayo off the bowling of Yuzvendra Chahal. Dhoni’s gloves became a matter of pride for the Indian fans but it didn’t go well with International Cricket Council(ICC)

The governing body instructed BCCI to remove the gloves of 2011 winning captain. The ICC norms say that the display of messages that relate to political, religious, racial activities or any other cause is not allowed during an international match.

Ever since the statement from ICC, Indian fans have started slamming the governing body on social media handles and have requested Dhoni to not remove the gloves as its about the pride of the country. Not to forget, the Ranchi lad was conferred with the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel on 1 November 2011 by the Indian Territorial Army.

BCCI responds to ICC

The BCCI was put under tremendous pressure and they finally responded in favour of pride of the army. The national governing body. CoA chief Vinod Rai has confirmed that the board has send a letter to ICC to grant permission “We have already written (to ICC to seek permission for MS Dhoni to wear ‘Balidaan’ insignia on his gloves), will speak more after the meeting (CoA meeting),” he was quoted as saying by India TV.

ICC chairman Shashank Manohar has also faced the backlash from the fans for disrespecting MS Dhoni’s love for the army. Mr. Manohar, a former BCCI President hails from Nagpur.
