Will MS Dhoni travel to West Indies for limited overs series amid retirement speculation ?

India suffered a heart-breaking lost to New Zealand in World Cup semi-final on 10th July at Old Trafford in Manchester. The men in blue will next travel to West Indies for a full fledged tour including Three T20Is, three ODIs and two test matches. However, the biggest question will be the presence of MS Dhoni in the team amid retirement speculations. The answer to the question lies with the 38-year-old and the cricket administrators are waiting to listen from his about his future with the national team. Dhoni will head to his hometown Ranchi and few Indian players will leave for different destination for a two week break before heading to West Indies. The team has been together since reporting in Mumbai on May 20 before leaving for the United Kingdom the next day.

The selection committee led by MSK Prasad will meet on 17th 18th July in Mumbai to pick the squad for Windies tour. Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah are likely to be rested for the Windies limited overs series and will likely join the team in the test series. Rohit Sharma is expected to lead the side in the shorter formats. Several other players like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami may also get a much needed break making way for Navdeep Saini for a maiden call-up.

(Shami picked 14 wickets in four games for India)

More players could be rested. Bumrah, Pandya, Bhuvi, Shami – they’ve been playing non-stop cricket.A call can be taken in the coming week. For the time being though, the focus is on Dhoni. Will it be a tweet or a statement or a tete-a-tete with the media – one that he doesn’t really prefer – that will signal the cricketer’s retirement? Or will he continue till India’s World T20 campaign in Australia next year?

The campaign has just ended. Not even 24 hours have passed. Let’s wait for the team to get back. Last evening hasn’t been easy on them at all. The board will wait to hear from Dhoni,”  a source was quoted as saying by TOI.
