India thrashed Bangladesh in 1st test

India thrashed a low lying Bangladesh by an innings and 130 runs to show their real prowess of being the number one in the first test at Indore against Bangladesh. With this win, India now leads the two match T20 series 1-0 and got full 60 points to further consolidate their position in ICC World Test Championship with 300 points.

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first at a wicket which did not had much to offer for the bowlers. However, the fiery Indian pace trio had some other plans as they sailed through the top order in the first hour of the day. Skipper Mominul Haque and veteran batsman Mushfiqur Rahim tried to build the innings but spin did the trick for India as R. Ashwin striked early in his spell to dismiss Mominul.

Mushfiqur played some shots to keep the score board ticking but after his departure it was just a matter of time. Bangladesh was all out on 150 runs, thanks to Mohammed Shami who picked three wickets, well supported by Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and R. Ashwin who picked three wickets each.

Rohit Sharma was dismissed early a 91 run stand between Cheteshwar Pujara and Mayank Agarwal was decisive for India. After the departure of Pujara, India lost skipper Virat Kohli who was dismissed on zero for the 10th time in his career. Vice skipper Ajinkya Rahane walked to the crease and added 190 runs for 4th wicket with Agarwal to put India on drivers seat.

Mayank Agarwal went on to complete his double hundred and had a good chance to convert it into a triple ton but off spinner Mehidy Hasan send him packing on 243 runs. Ravindra Jadeja and Umesh Yadav entertained the crowd in the last session of 2nd day’s play and India declared their innings on 493/6.

Bangladeshi batters had the tough task to eliminate the chances of an innings defeat but Indian bowlers proved way too good for them. The pace trio dismissed the top three batsman in quick time Mushfiqur Rahim tried to build partnership with lower middle order batsman- Liton Das and Mehidy Hasan but it didn’t prove enough. The visitors could just manage 213 runs, thanks to Mohammed Shami, who picked four wickets in the second innings and now stands at number three position in the list of highest wicket takers in 2019. Its worth mentioning that Shami do not feature in limited overs format.

India now stands with 300 points in ICC World Test Championship with 300 points and the difference between them and the second placed team- New Zealand is now 240 points.
