Ind v Ban 2nd test: Sunil Gavaskar expresses anger after Virat Kohli praises Sourav Ganguly

After winning the Pink ball Test against Bangladesh by an innings and 46 runs, Indian captain Virat Kohli praised ‘Dada’ Sourav Ganguly, but it did not go down well with former captain Sunil Gavaskar and he has expressed his displeasure.

After the ‘dominating’ victory in the day night test, captain Kohli praised former captain and current BCCI President Sourav Ganguly. He said that this tradition was started by ‘Dada’, which the team is carrying forward. Former captain Sunil Gavaskar expressed his displeasure over this statement of the Indian skipper.

The former India International said that the Indian team used to win overseas and also at home in seventies and eighties, way before the era of Sourav Ganguly.

“Virat may have forgotten that the Indian team used to play cricket even before Ganguly’s team and had many wins on foreign and home conditions in the seventies and eighties. If people are assuming that our country’s team started playing and winning cricket in the 90s then they are wrong. From 1970 to 1988, the Indian team had a great performance in Test cricket and recorded many historic victories,” Gavaskar said.

He further said that even though Virat was not born then, but he can go through the record of Indian team of that era and discover that the record was better. He continued by saying that limited overs cricket was not played much back then but it does not mean that Indian team started winning only in the 90’s.
