In the second match of the three-match ODI series played in Rajkot on Friday, Team India defeated Australia by 36 runs to claw their way back in the series after a comprehensive 10 wicket loss in the 1st clash in Mumbai. This is Team India’s first win in three ODIs at this venue as earlier in 2013, England got the better of the men in blue while South Africa emerged victorious in 2015.
Batting first after losing the toss, India scored 340, losing six wickets in the stipulated 50 overs, thanks to the half-century innings of Shikhar Dhawan (96), Virat Kohli (78) and late innings flourish by KL Rahul (80), batting at an unusual number five which fetched him the man of the match award. He also showed his quick glove work to stump Aaron Finch, that proved to be the decisive breakthrough for India in the 2nd ODI.
In response, the Australian team was bundled out on 304 runs in 49.1 overs. For India, Mohammad Shami took three wickets and was closing out on a possible hattrick after dismissing Ashton Turner and Pat Cummins. He was well supported by Navdeep Saini, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja. who took 2 wickets each. Jasprit Bumrah proved economical and took one wicket.
