Injury hit New Zealand announce squad for ODI series against India

New Zealand announced their squad for the three-match one-day series against India on Thursday. Kyle Jamieson was given his maiden call up in the squad after his impressive run in the domestic cricket and India A series. Fast bowlers Scott Kuggleijn and Hamish Bennett return to the one-day team after three years. The two pacers are allready a part of current T20 squad that is playing India.

Senior fast bowlers Trent Boult, Lockie Fergson and Matt Henry are out of the team due to serious injury. Wicket keeper batsman Tom Latham, who missed the T20 series due to injury, was called back to the ODI squad. Leg spinner Ish Sodhi has only got a place in the team for the first match, as from February 7 he will play an unofficial Test match for New Zealand A against India A.

Jimmy Neesham missed out on the T20 squad but his heroics in 2019 world cup were enough to make him a regular in the 50 overs setup. He will be one of the two pace bowling all-rounders in the team alongside Colin De Grandhomme.

The first match of the three-match ODI series will be played at Seddon Park in Hamilton on 5 February. The second match will be played at Eden Park in Auckland on February 8 and the last match of the series will be played on February 11 at Mount Moungnui.

This will be the first time since the 2019 world cup final, when New Zealand will play their first ever One Day International match. The black caps were unlucky to lose the world cup finals after a controversial six rule came into action after both teams(England and New Zealand) were tied in the super over.

Full squad-
Kane Williamson (captain), Hamish Bennett, Tom Blundell, Colin de Grandhomme, Martin Guptill, Kyle Jamieson, Scott Kuggleijn, Tom Latham, Jimmy Neesham, Henry Nichols, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi (first ODI), Tim Southee, Ross Taylor.
