Indian captain Virat Kohli has became the first Indian to cross 7 crore followers on social networking site- Instagram. Not only this, he has become the fourth most followed sportsman on the platform after footballer Cristiano Ronaldo (23.2 million followers), Lionel Messi (16.1 million followers) and Neymar (14 crore followers).
The Indian skipper has pipped basketball icon LeBron James with 6.90 crore followers. Kohli is followed by Priyanka Chopra Jonas with 5.5 crore, which makes her the second most followed Indian on Instagram.
Shraddha Kapoor with 5.14 crore followers is third in the list followed by Deepika Padukone with 5.10 crore followers, Alia Bhatt with 4.80 crore followers and Prime Minister Narendra Modi taking the sixth spot with 4.59 crore followers. Kohli is the only sportsperson to be amongst the top-10 most followed Indians.
When can we expect Kohli in action ?
South Africa’s limited overs tour to India was to kickstart with Dharamshala ODI on 12th March but it was washed off due to rain in the mountains of Dhauladhar. The next two ODIs were scheduled in Lucknow and Kolkata but they were cancelled keeping in mind the spread of coronavirus pandemic. This way, India last played any International match against New Zealand in February where skipper Virat Kohli was in action.
Now after several months, cricket has finally returned with West Indies touring England for a three match test series where the hosts clinched the series 2-1, despite losing the first match. Now Indian cricketers including Virat Kohli will be in action in the upcoming Indian Premier League season, which commences on 19th September in United Arab Emirates(UAE).
This year’s IPL was scheduled to start from 29th March but due to the rising coronavirus threat, government imposed a countrywide lockdown which made the case worst for the richest cricket league in the world.
