India was thrashed by Pakistan by 10 wickets in the ongoing T20 world cup in a group B clash. The two neighbors met on 24th October for a high profile clash at Dubai International Stadium in Dubai and Indian batters looked totally off color followed by the disappointment by the Indian bowlers which was capitalized by Pakistan and they won by 10 wickets in hand.
The two teams have not played any bilateral fully fledged series ever since the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attack but Pakistan toured India for a limited over series in 2012-13. Ever since then, the two neighbors just square off against each other in an ICC or ACC event. Cross border tension, terrorism and politics between the two countries is enough to put bilateral cricket series talks at bay.
Fans will be waiting eagerly for another India-Pakistan clash and it will on 31 July 2022 at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. The Commonwealth games federation has approved women’s cricket for the games and it was only back in 1998 Kuala Lumpur edition when cricket was last played in the Commonwealth games.
Women’s cricket has grown in stature and amongst fans in the recent years and providing another stage like the Commonwealth games may only brighten up the women’s cricket. T20 format is proposed for cricket at Commonwealth games and India is placed in Group A with Australia, India, Barbados and Pakistan.
