As Roger Federer gears for his last tournament, ticket prices rise to 50 Lakh

Roger Federer announced that he will retire from Tennis and Laver Cup will be his last appearance on the tennis court. The Swiss man broke millions of hearts with the announcement, however the fans are willing to pay anything to watch their star play for one last time. The O2 arena will host the farewell match of Federer as he will draw curtains to an illustrious 24-year-old career where he bagged 20 grand slam titles. However, tickets prices are on a surge in the secondary market and they have risen to a price of 50 Lakh per ticket, according to The Sunday Times.

The report further added that people are re-selling their tickets for a higher price and the price may rise with the presence of Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray who will represent Team Europe alongside Federer.

“To my tennis family and beyond. Of all the gifts that tennis has given me over the years, the greatest, without a doubt, has been the people I’ve met along the way: my friends, my competitors, and most of all the fans who give the sport its life. Today, I want to share some news with all of you,” Federer, a two time Olympic medallist said in a statement.

“As many of you know, the past three years have presented me with challenges in the form of injuries and surgeries. I’ve worked hard to return to full competitive form. But I also know my body’s capacities and limits, and its message to me lately has been clear. I am 41 years old. I have played more than 1500 matches over 24 years. Tennis has treated me more generously than lever would have dreamt, and now I must recognize when it is time to end my competitive career,” he added further.

Doubts over Federer’s participation in his farewell game

Fans will be eagerly waiting for the farewell match of Federer, however they may be up for a huge setback. His physical trainer claimed that a last-minute call will be taken over his involvement in the tournament as injury concerns still didn’t clear the skies for Federer’s participation. The trainer claimed that the veteran tennis star is facing discomfort in knees during the training sessions.

Its worth mentioning that Roger Federer has not competed since Wimbledon in July 2021 and had a series of knee operations.
