2017 was a mixed year for Indian tennis. Doubles was the center of attraction with the likes of Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza performing at International circuit. Some young prospects like Sumit Nagal and Karman Kaur Thandi, impressed one and all. Here’s the list of top Indian tennis players from 2017.

5. Ramkumar Ramanathan
Ramanathan reached his first singles challenger final at Tallahassee challenger in April. He lost the final to Blaž Rola from Slovenia to finish as runner-up. Ramanathan produced a big upset by defeating world No. 8 and top seed Dominic Thiem 6-3 6-2 in the second round of Antalya Open. This was his first match against a top-10 player. He progressed till the quarterfinals where he lost to Marcos Baghdatis in a third set tie break.
In July, he reached his second singles challenger final at Nielsen Pro Tennis Championships. But here he had to be content as runner-up. He lost the final in straight sets to Akira Santillan from Japan.
In August, Ramanathan qualified for the first time in main draw of a Masters 1000 tournament at Cincinati Masters. He defeated Christopher Eubanks in first round but lost to Jared Donaldson in second round. This result moved him to career high ranking of 156. Ramanathan entered qualifying draw of US Open. He defeated Paul-Henri Mathieu in first round but lost to Nicolas Mahut in second round.
In Davis cup, Ramanathan maintained a record of 5 wins and 1 loss throughout the calendar year 2017. He is currently ranked 136 in men singles.
