Following the success of women’s team yesterday, Indian men’s team wins table tennis gold at Gold Coast CWG, courtesy of a 3-0 victory over Nigeria. India’s campaign was led by the veteran Achanta Sharath Kamal, who had to fight hard to overcome Bode Abiodun 4-11, 11-5, 11-4, 11-9 to give India an early 1-0 lead. Sathiyan Gnanasekaran faced the challenge from Segun Toriola, as he had to battle hard for a 10-12, 11-3, 11-3, 11-4 win to give India a 2-0 lead.
Harmeet Desai paired with Sathiyan in men’s doubles- as they confirmed India’s gold medal with an 11-8, 11-5, 11-3 win over Abiodin and Olajide Omotayo.
This was India’s ninth gold medal in CWG 2018 and second gold in Table tennis. followed up on the famous win by the women’s team over Singapore on Sunday. India had earlier assured of a silver medal when they entered the final after beating defending champion Singapore 3-2, earlier in the day.
