Shreyasi Singh shows nerves of steel to clinch gold at CWG 2018

India’s Shreyasi Singh wins gold in women’s double trap event at Gold Coast CWG after an eventful finals. She was tied with Emma Cox(96) of Australia at the end, but showed the nerve of steel to clinch 12th gold medal for India. Cox needed just 19 shot to win the gold, after an impressive 28 and 27 in earlier two round. However the nerves got better of her on the day, and she could just manage a score of 18, to force a shoot-off for a gold medal.

In the shoot-off, Singh shot perfect two and mounted all the pressure on the Australian, who faltered when it mattered the most to give India the gold medal.

Other Indian in contention was Varsha Varman who was 3rd at the start of the last round. A disappointing last round made her slip to one place down to fourth, and narrowly missed a medal.

India’s Ankur Mittal also clinched a bronze in men’s double trap shooting. He shot a total of 53 to give India its 24th medal at Gold Coast CWG.
