There may be a possibility of a India-Pakistan series in coming future as BCCI wrote a letter to the Centre, seeking its stand on a bilateral series with the Pakistan cricket team.
“Would be grateful if you could formally convey the policy/position of the Indian government on the need or requirement of prior clearance from govt for Indian cricket team to play Pakistan cricket team in in-bound or outbound tours,” wrote BCCI
Not to forget, due to the political and cross border tensions between the two neighboring countries, there has not been a possibility of a bilateral series and the BCCI needs approval from the Indian Government before it can schedule a bilateral series with Pakistan.
In 2014, the BCCI and the PCB signed a Memorandum of Understanding which stated that the two teams would play six bilateral series between 2015 and 2023.
However, BCCI has repeatedly rebuffed Pakistan’s request for revival of ties. On the other hand, PCB wants BCCI to fulfill its commitment under the MoU, which is subjected to clearance from the Government of India.
The two nations have not played any bilateral series against each other since 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. However, Pakistan toured India for a short series from 25 December 2012 to 6 January 2013. The Twenty20 series was drawn 1-1, Pakistan won the ODI series 2-1.
