After the historic triumph in Turkey, Gymnast Dipa Karmakar received a warm welcome on the return to India on Tuesday. She became the only first Indian gymnast to win a gold at any International gymnastic event after she won a gold in the vault event at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Challenge Cup in Ankara, Turkey.
Karmakar expressed gratitude to her coach and the Sports Authority of India for their support, which motivated her to perform better. Dipa’s name has been included in the 10-member Indian gymnastics team for the Asian Games, which are slated to begin from August 18.
Talking about his return after 2 years Dipa said “I am very happy to win a medal in the first competition after my injury that kept me out of action for 2 years. I would thank my coach(Bishweshwar Nandi), Sports Authority of India and Gymnastics Federation of India for their support. This comeback would have not been possible without their support.
“Now i have to prepare for Asian Games. Ill give it my all during the practise,” Dipa said.
Dipa admitted that winning a medal at the world cup will boost her confidence.
“I will get alot of confidence from this gold medal, because i went for a competition after 2 years. But i still have alot to achieve,” the Tripura born added.
