Speculations of MS Dhoni’s retirement is rife ever since India’s loss to New Zealand in World Cup semi-final by 18 runs to bow out of the show piece event. Fans have started calling the veteran of 350 ODIs to not retire from cricket and keep serving for the nation until he is fit. There are speculations that Dhoni may hang up his boots and may not travel to West Indies for the next series.
In the game against New Zealand, India lost quick wickets at the start of the innings as they lost KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli under three runs. The team management preferred Dinesh Karthik and Hardik Pandya over Dhoni which has raised a few eyebrows.
The 38-year-old was sent to bat at number seven for India and brought back India into the game. MS Dhoni came to bat when India was 71/5 and did a rebuilding with Ravindra Jadeja after the departure of Hardik Pandya. The two added 116 runs for the seventh wicket to bring back India into the game. With required run rate soaring up to 12 in the 48th over, Ravindra Jadeja perished after playing an innings of 77 off just 59 balls. MS Dhoni could not finish the game and was run out from a rocket throw by Martin Guptill at short fine leg in 49th over bowled by Lockie Ferguson. India eventually fell short by 18 runs to bow out of the world cup.
MS Dhoni to play the next edition of Indian Premier League
Despite age not being his side, Dhoni continues to be the second fittest player in the Indian team after skipper Virat Kohli. He may not feature for the national team in 2023 World Cup but he is all set to play in the next edition of Indian Premier League(IPL).
“Whatever may be the speculation, he will play for us next year,” he said. This comes as a delighting news for the Indian fans as they haven’t seen the end of the legendary cricketer yet,” a senior Chennai Super Kings official told Mumbai Mirror.
As far as his International career is concerned, Dhoni might call it a day soon as there are speculations that he won’t play in the limited overs series in West Indies.
