Ajinkya Rahane set to captain India against Afghanistan in the one-off test

In the absence of Virat Kohli who will head to England to play for Surrey in the county cricket, vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane is set to captain India against Afghanistan in the one-off historic test in Bangalore, starting 14th June.

National selectors will meet in Bengaluru on 8th May to announce six different Indian squad- one-off Test against Afghanistan, India ‘A’ team for tour of England, ‘A’ team for tri-series involving England ‘A’ and West Indies ‘A’, T20 squad for tour of Ireland, T20 squad for tour of England, One-day squad for matches in England.

According to TOI, Rahane is certain to lead India against Afghanistan and Cheteshwar Pujara, who is playing for Yorkshire will head back to home to play the test against Afghanistan. Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Hardik Pandya are also expected to feature in the team that takes on Afghanistan.

Openers KL Rahul and Murali Vijay, along with off-spinner R Ashwin, wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik and Mumbai Indians allrounder Krunal Pandya will be among the cricketers part of the India ‘A’ team that will tour England and for the tri-series between England A and West Indies A.

Dinesh Karthik, who has put some stellar performances for India at the Nidahas trophy and for KKR in IPL 2018, looks set to be named in India’s T20 and ODI side, with MS Dhoni continuing to keep the wickets. “Expect the batsmen to get a lot of playing hours and a very balanced work-chart for the pacers,” sources said.
