Amol Mazumdar roped in as the batting coach of Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2018

Former Indian domestic cricketer Amol Mazumdar has been announced as the batting coach of Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2018. He will join the likes of Shane Warne who will act as the mentor of the RR.

“We are proud to have Amol Muzumdar on board as the team’s batting coach. His record on domestic circuit speaks for his greatness. The young batsmen will get so much to learn from him and develop their skills. Amol and Sairaj both bring skill, experience and vehemence that will surely drive the energy of the team in the right direction,” Zubin Bharucha, head of cricket, said.

Commenting on the appointment, Muzumdar said: “These are exciting times for a batsman. T20 has completely changed the contours of the game. The skill-sets are different, the game is more happening. There is never a dull moment. As a coach one has to constantly innovate and adapt while guiding the youngsters acquire new batting skills and keeping the basics of the game intact at the same time. It is a role I am excited about.”

Amol Mazumdar took the field against Haryana in 1993-94 pre-quarter final of Ranji trophy. He was at his peak at the time of Sachin, Laxman, Ganguly and Dravid which eventually gave no chance for his selection in the team. Mazumdar preferred batting at 3 or 4, a position that was allready taken by Sachin and Dravid. Lower middle order was still looking for a replacement, but the find was over as India got Yuvraj and Laxman at the start of 2001. He kept scoring runs in the domestic cricket, but still went unnoticed.

The right hander has 11,167 first class runs at an average of 48.13 with 30 hundreds but that was not enough to earn him an India call. He is well known as the most unluckiest cricketer who could not play for India, despite impressive performance. The Indian domestic giant will finally get what he equally deserved in past, thanks to Rajasthan Royals.
