Anu Kumar becomes the first gold medalist of Khelo India School Games.

Anu Kumar from Uttarakhand and Abhishek Singh from Uttar Pradesh impressed at the opening day of Khelo India School games which fetched them gold medals. Kumar started off in a great fashion and became the first gold medalist of Khelo India School Games.

Anu Kumar who is the silver medalist from World School games,France in 800m, competed in 1500m here at Khelo India School Games. The boy from Uttarakhand finished with a time of 4.04.77 seconds to take the gold. Tamil Nadu’s Mithlesh, finished second to take the silver and bronze went in favour of Uttar Pradesh, represented by Sandeep Kumar. Read: All you need to know about Khelo India School Games

On the opening day of the revolutionary event, Tamil Nadu clinched two golds out of the six at stake. Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Haryana were the other four to take the gold at the 1st day. However, Anu Kumar created history, when he become the first gold medalist of Khelo India School Games.

“I didn’t got enough competition in the race,” said Anu after winning the gold medal. This eventually speaks the confidence of the boy, who trains at the sports college Raipur.

Anu didn’t stop from here and made the celebration even grand by winning his second gold in 800m, an event where he is a recognized commodity. N. Sree Kiran of Tamil Nadu finished at second position followed by Vaseem Tomar of U.P at third.

“Our next target is winning a gold at Youth Olympics games by setting a new world record. If everything goes the right way, Anu will definitely bring laurels to the country by winning the Olympic gold medal,” said Anu’s coach.

The youngster looks in the right spirits to be a future prospect for India. As India’s quest to find its own Usain Bolt continues.

In a surprising move, Indian non playing captain Rohit Rajpal picked only two Indian players to play five match of the tie. Ramkumar and Balaji will be playing the first two singles on day 1 of the competition while they will return next day to feature in the doubles and then the reverse singles.

Reigning world champions and two time Javelin Throw Olympic medalist- Neeraj Chopra will take the field at the Diamond League finals in Brussels, Belgium. The army man from Haryana will be up against two time world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada, 2020 Olympic medallist Jakub Vadlech, Germany’s Julian Weber, Adrian Mardare of Maldova and Genki Dean of Japan.

Chopra finished at the 4th overall in the rankings to qualify for the finals of Diamond League. Its worth mentioning that the rankings are points earned after competing in other Diamond Leagues around the world. Chopra only competed in two Diamond League this season and finished 2nd on both the occasion that gave him14 points which proved enough for him to qualify.

The Diamond League finals will be contested on 13 and 14 September and Neeraj will take the field on 14 September.

Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan didn’t make the cut as he competed in just one diamond league this season and didn’t have enough points to make a trip to Brussels.

Neeraj Chopra can well do something about his injury that is bothering him from a while as the season comes to a close after the Diamond League finals. Chopra won the Diamond League finals in 2022 but his recent form coming into Brussels is also encouraging as he landed the 2nd best throw of his career, measuring 89.45 meters.
