West Indies turned the complexion of the third ODI courtesy of Ashley Nurse’s brilliance that saw him get the man of the match title. The lower order batsman smashed the ball to all corners of the ground and made 40 runs off just 22 balls to give the final flourish to Windies innings.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar was not so fruitful for India as he leaked 21 runs off the last over thanks to the heroics of Nurse.
In the second innings, Nurse got all the limelight on himself courtesy of his attention seeking style of celebration. He celebrated by gloving his hands like a snake which is a “Babaji ka thullu” celebration in India, made famous by comedian Kapil Sharma.
Nurse brought the action into play when he dismissed Ambati Rayudu in the 2nd ODI at Visakhapatnam and continued in the 3rd ODI at Pune where he dismissed Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant.
Influence of the celebratory move
Nurse revealed that he met an Indian cricketer- Sunny Sohal, based in United States in the Caribbean Premier league season where he told him to repeat this trendy move which is very famous in India.
“Just dedicating the celebration to my Indian friend – Sunny Sohal, whom I met at the CPL. He told me when you get a wicket to do a ‘babaji ka thullu’ or something. It’s supposed to be very famous here,” Nurse said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
