Asia Cup tournament will return after a gap of 4 years as the 2020 edition was rescheduled to 2021 edition due to the rising threat of Covid-19 around the world. Covid-19 still wrecked havoc in 2021 and it was rescheduled to 2022 and finally the Asian cricketing extravaganza will kickstart from 27th August 2022. Sri Lanka will take on Afghanistan in the tournament opener at Dubai International stadium. Sri Lanka was originally hosting the tournament but due to financial and economic crisis the tournament was later shifted to UAE.
Its worth mentioning that the tournament is played in 20 over and 50 over format but the Asian Cricket Council decides to take the 50 over format if a one day world cup is nearing or 20 over format if a T20 world cup would be nearing. This time around the tournament will be played in 20 over format and the teams were divided in two groups. While group A has the likes of India, Pakistan and a qualifier team which will be decided later, Group B will have the likes of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.
