Life can be so unpredictable that shortage of money can bring a star to do the things we never expect them to do. Same has been the case with former Australian spinner Xavier Doherty, who plied his trade for the national team in 2015 cricket world cup. The Tasmanian announced his retirement from cricket in March 2017, following the conclusion of the 2016–17 Sheffield Shield season.
Life after cricket has not been so smooth for Doherty and to earn a livelihood, he is working as a carpenter now. We have allready discussed about few cricketers who have turned bus driver after retirement from cricket.
Its worth mentioning that the Australian Cricketers’ Association posted a video on its official Twitter account, in which Doherty is seen doing carpentry work with tools on a building site.
In this video, Doherty said that when he left cricket, he had not thought about what he would do later. In such a situation, he did the several work that he got for the first 12 months. He also worked in landscaping, office work and some cricket related work.
Doherty has played four Tests, 60 One-Day and 11 T20 Internationals for Australia. He has seven wickets in Tests, 55 in ODIs and 10 wickets in T20s.
