- Jitender has represented India at international level in the flyweight category.
- He currently resides in Bhiwani, which is the boxing capital of India .
- He won Bronze medal for India competing in Commonwealth games in 2006 held in Melbourne, Australia.
- Kumar came in limelight when he qualified for quarter finals of the Beijing Olympics 2008 along with Akhil Kumar (Bantamweight) and Vijender Singh (Super middleweight). Though only, Vijender went on to win his quarter final and further went on to clinch the historic bronze medal which was first medal in boxing at Olympics for India.
