Afghanistan has emerged as a new cricketing power in the world and brought more competition to Asia especially in the limited overs format. The boys in blue recently defeated Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and played a draw against India in the Asia Cup 2018. They came close to defeat Pakistan in super 4 encounter but Shoaib Malik’s heroics rescued Pakistan from a tricky situation. Their performance has been moving up the bar with every passing day and the team is all set to become a cricketing power in coming future.
The reason of their success mainly depends on Rashid Khan who became the first Afghan cricketer to play in IPL. After his impressive run, several other T20 franchise bought him that gave him the much needed experience at a very young age.
Many cricket experts claim Rashid as the best bowler of the current era and feeling the same way, Australian all-rounder Ben Cutting says that Rashid Khan is the best bowler of the current time.
“There are some fantastic players out there. Some of these guys, some of these spinners that we have in our team, are as good as the best spinners in the world at the moment. We saw how Rashid Khan came to the fore in the IPL. He is the best bowler in the world,” Cutting said in an interview with Sportskeeda.
Cutting who captains Afghanistan Premier League(APL) side Nangarhar Leopards said that playing T20 cricket around the world in franchise leagues is not the way forward.
“I don’t think it is the way forward for the entire sport but it suits certain people, certain personalities. I have my own reasons between retiring from Cricket Australia and Queensland to come and play these tournaments and I am much happier now doing what I am doing than I was in the last couple of years playing cricket,” he concluded.
