India pipped Sri Lanka by 78 runs to win the three match T20 series 2-0 in Pune. The first match of the series was washed away by rain in Guwahati. With this win, India will now head to New Zealand to play their first ever five match T20 series. Before the tour, India is scheduled to play a short three matchODI series against Australia at home.Earlier in the match, Sri Lankan captain Lasith Malinga won the toss and elected to bowl first. The decision was proved wrong by Indian batters as Shikhar Dhawan(52 off 36 balls) and KL Rahul(54 off 36 balls) stitched a 97 runs stand for the first wicket. India lost three more quick wickets in succession which put them in a spot of bother at 122/4. Manish Pandey(31 off 18 balls) and Virat Kohli(26 off 17 balls) took the innings forward but India lost their captain on the score of 164 in the 18th over. Shardul Thakur played a cameo innings of 22 off 8 balls to take Indian total to 201/6 in 20 overs.
Chinaman spinner Lakshan Sandakan was the pick of the Sri Lankan bowlers with three wickets. Lahiru Kumara and Wanindu Hasaranga picked one wicket each.
Sri Lanka got off to a worst start as they lost their top four batsman under 30 runs. Angelo Mathews and Dhananjaya De Silva showed some intent and added 68 runs for the fifth wicket but their resistance was broken by Washington Sundar, who dismissed Angelo Mathews(31 off 20 balls).
Sri Lankan lower order had too much to do and they fell short of the target by 78 runs and were dismissed in 15.5 overs.Navdeep Saini was the pick of Indian bowlers with three wickets. Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur picked two wickets each, while Jasprit Bumrah picked one wicket.

Shardul Thakur is making most of the limited opportunities coming his way. Some crucial runs. Wickets. And while there’s a lot of cricket left today, I’m already picking him as my Man of the Match…i.e. if India wins. #IndvSL
