India faced a major setback ahead of the 1st ODI against West Indies, starting Sunday at Chepauk stadium in Chennai. Bhuvneshwar Kumar complained of pain after India registered a convincing 67 run victory against Windies in the 3rd t20 to win the series 2-1. Bhuvi has been struggling from injury in the past 16-20 months and his current situation will certainly not help his cause.
The Uttar Pradesh bowler last played a test match at 2018 South Africa tour where he was named the player of the series. He was out of action after the West Indies tour which started post the 2019 World Cup and made his comeback in the recently concluded T20 series against West Indies.
Fast bowlers career is often cut short by injuries and Ashish Nehra is the best example of it. An injury can be a career ending event in a pacers life as in some instances, he can not be his 100% after he recovers and someone better than him gets the place in the team.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar ruled out for four months
It took close to four months for Bhuvi to make a national comeback after injury and it looks that he has to further wait for four more months to be back on the cricket field. He will now undergo a surgery for Sports hernia and will take a minimum of two months to recover.
“He will certainly miss the entire tour of New Zealand. Probably should be in a position to return to cricket only during the IPL, if all goes well,” sources was quoted as saying by TOI.
“He’ll have to go through one (surgery). That’s confirmed. The how, when and where is being worked out,” the sources added.
NCA has been under the scanner, especially after handling Wriddhiman Saha’s shoulder injury that almost ended his career. “It’s not the first time that a cricketer carrying an injury has gone through something like this at the NCA. We all remember the Wriddhiman Saha episode, don’t we? His career was put in jeopardy, the way his recovery was handled,” the source mentioned.
