West Indies were outclassed by a dominant Indian team in the test series and the domination continued in the first ODI, where the visitors posted a huge total but India chased it down with ease. The Windies team re-gathered themselves and draw the second ODI that proved to be an eye opener for the Indian team. However, despite the exciting 2nd ODI, the venue and chief selector MSK Prasad have made the headlines but for the wrong reasons.
Pitch workship controversy
At the beautiful stadium of Vizag, chief selector MSK Prasad and pitch curator performed some rituals on the 22 yards pitch on the day of the match. Andhra Cricket association has confirmed that they do the pitch workship before every season but it was never done on the day of the game which is drawing criticism.
Former Andhra cricketer GJJ Raju lashed out at Prasad saying that the chief selector is “cricket illeterate”. However, there was no damage done to the pitch following the acts.
“How can MSK take part in such an activity? He is the Chairman of the National Selection Committee and it doesn’t suit his position. This is what happens when ‘cricket illiterates’ are in positions which they are not suited for. The game is secular and bringing religion and superstitious beliefs into the picture is not proper. This is a shameful act on the part of MSK,” Raju told Times of India.
“The game is won or lost on the skills of the players and invoking the gods will not help anyone. Aren’t we making a fool of ourselves by indulging in such cheap gimmicks? The BCCI should take a note of it and make sure that such things do not happen in the future,” he added.
