After England registered a win in Southampton test to seal the series 3-1, Alastair Cook announced that he will hang his boots after the fifth test. He hasn’t been in the best of form from last one year and he thought it might be the right time to step down. For the last time in England colours, Cook came to bat in the first innings with whole of the house standing on its feet to applaud the legendary batsman.
Cook, 33, made a memorable outing for himself as he notched 71 runs in the first innings and he continued it with an unbeaten hundred in the second innings that got him all the praises.
Stat Alert
Cook made his test debut against India at Nagpur on March 1, 2006. He scored a half century(60 runs) in the first innings and scored a hundred(104 runs) in the second innings and the story has repeated itself yet again in his last team.

A century in your last innings. And an ovation that looked like it would never end. It was, as Joe Root said, “written in the stars”. What a moment for the mighty Alastair Cook.

Alastair Cook has played 160 Tests & just 92 ODIs. He is a Test cricketer to the core. No wonder England love him so much.?
