On September 12, Indian captain Virat Kohli shared a picture of MS Dhoni which fueled the speculation of Mahi’s retirement. However, he later clarified that it was just a memory he wanted to share and it has nothing to do with Dhoni’s retirement. Chennai Super Kings owner N Srinivasan is considered to be very close to the former captain and he has given a fresh statement about the future of the Indian wicketkeeper batsman.

Srinivasan said that whether Dhoni plays or retires, he will continue to lead Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2020. “I can say only one thing. Mahendra Singh Dhoni will only be the captain for the next IPL Chennai Super Kings next season.” Dhoni has been one of the most successful captains in the history of IPL. He is also the first captain to have led a team to three IPL titles,” Srinivisan told a television channel.
CSK returned to the fray in 2018 and in the same season, Dhoni showed his leadership magic and led his team to third title, making them the most successful team in IPL history. He again led the team to 2019 finals where they lost to Mumbai Indians by just 1 run.
The veteran of 350 ODIs last played in the blue jersey in 2019 World cup semi-final against New Zealand, where he suffered an unfortunate run out that broke India’s hope of a world cup final berth. He made himself unavailable for Windies series and went for army duties in the terrorist prone area of Awantipura in South Kashmir.
He was expected to return for the South Africa T20 series but the selectors picked Rishabh Pant over him. It is clear that the selectors are willing to give Pant more opportunities to get him ready for 2020 T20 World Cup in Australia.
Dhoni is likely to return for West Indies ODI series which starts in December.
