England and Yorkshire pacer David Willey replaces Mitchell Santner in Chennai Super Kings for IPL 2018. Willey is the 12th Englishman to sign for an IPL team this year and will join his international team-mates Mark Wood and Sam Billings after agreeing a £225,000 deal at Chennai Super Kings as a late injury replacement.

Earlier Liam Plunkett who also plays for Yorkshire, signed a deal with Delhi daredevils and now with Willey being the recent addition in the IPL, has made the English club in a fix ahead of the start of the County season.
“We find ourselves in an impossible situation with these late replacement requests. At the moment, we are potentially looking at a situation where if we deny a player an opportunity, we will be left with someone who is not completely focused on playing for Yorkshire. This would be counter-productive,” Yorkshire’s Director of Cricket Martyn Moxon said.
“There are now 12 English players in this year’s IPL, so the issue goes further than just here at Emerald Headingley.”
Moxon went on to say that he will be in a meeting with the other directors of cricket to future-proof the competition and reckoned he’d suggest a cut-off date.
“I will be chairing a meeting with other directors of cricket tomorrow at Edgbaston to discuss the future of the game. With the number of domestic T20 contracts available worldwide, it is important that we future-proof the County Championship. I will be calling for the introduction of a cut-off date, after which players will not be allowed to go to the IPL. Hopefully this can gain national approval and be supported by the ECB,” Moxon said.

Willey is a left arm pacer who can be a good death over specialist, he is also capable of notching some meaty blows down the order. Willey smashed a 36-ball 79 that included a 34-run over off Nathan Lyon, while opening the batting against Prime Minister’s XI in a warm-up game in Canberra, that speaks the volume of his batting speciality.

The 28-years-old from Northampton has played 20 T20 Internationals for England and has picked 24 wickets with an economy of 8.60.
