Key South African batsman ruled out as injury concern continues to shadow the South African team.

Quinton De Kock ruled out of the India vs South Africa series 2018.

Proteas wicketkeeper-batsman, Quinton de Kock, has been ruled out of the remainder of the India vs South Africa series 2018 due to a left wrist injury. De Kock sustained the injury during the second ODI at Centurion, as South Africa suffered a humilating nine-wickets defeat in a one-sided contest. The southpaw was hit on hand by a rising short delivery by Jasprit Bumrah in the third over of the match. Cricket South Africa, in a press release, stated that De Kock will be out atleast 2-4 weeks.

“Quinton suffered an extreme blow to the left wrist while batting in the second ODI on Sunday and felt severe pain and discomfort. Further investigation revealed severe bony bruising to the area, with associated swelling around the tendon in the wrist. This type of injury will require between 2-4 weeks to heal, which subsequently rules him out of the remainder of the ODI and T20 series against India. The Cricket South Africa medical team will aim to have him ready for the Test series against Australia starting next month.” told Proteas team manager, Dr Mohammed Moosajee.

The unfortunate injury to De Kock means he will join the list of injured players alongside AB De Villiers and Faf Du Plessis. South Africa is 2-0 down against India and the injury to blasting opener comes as a real shocker to Proteas fans. Missing Faf and AB De from the middle order has allready turned out to be a nightmare for the South African team and now loosing an established opener may make the situation even worse.

South Africa will next play a crucial test series against Australia in March. However too many injury concerns will cut down their chances of dominating the series against the Steve Smith’s led side like they did against India.
