Ahead of their first encounter, Delhi Daredevils ropes Liam Plunkett as replacement for Kagiso Rabada in IPL 2018. Plunkett went unsold in the auctions and will make his debut in IPL. Rabada was ruled out of the IPL with a lower back injury after he felt tightness and discomfort during the fourth Test against Australia in Johannesburg. The 22-year-old pacer was ruled out for upto 3 months.
“We are glad to announce that @Liam628 will be joining the #DDSquad as a replacement for the injured @KagisoRabada25. He has loads of experience and hits the deck hard. Can’t wait for him to join the lads soon!” Delhi Daredevils tweeted.
Plunkett, 33, joins his England team-mate Jason Roy at Delhi Daredevils, who are coached by former Australia captain Ricky Ponting.
The Englishman will join DD’s commendable looking bowling line-up that includes Mohammad Shami, Trent Boult and all-rounder Chris Morris, alongside Indian pacers like Sayan Ghosh and Avesh Khan.
Plunkett is an important part of the England limited-overs side and has represented his country across all three formats. He has played over 90 matches across all formats for England.
Delhi Daredevils will be looking to get off to the perfect start under the leadership of their new captain Gautam Gambhir in IPL 2018. They take on Kings XI Punjab at Mohali in their opening encounter.
