North India’s only Indian Super League club Delhi Dynamos today appointed former Barcelona B manager Josep Gombau as its coach for a span of two years. Josep, who was born in Amposta in Spain will replace Miguel Angel Porugal who left the office in May. He started his coaching career at a minor age of 16 when he joined Amposta FC youth team.
Speaking about his appointment-
“I am really excited and looking forward to this opportunity in the Indian Super League. I am not new to Asian football, so I know what to expect and I am ready for this challenge. The goal is to keep the philosophy of this club intact and to take the players to the next level where they are ready to challenge for the title,” Gombau said.
Coaching career
Gambau has also coached Hong Kong’s club Kitchee SC where he helped the club triumph in the Hong Kong First Division League and Hong Kong FA cup for two times. He moved to Asia in 2009 and stayed for four years with the club.
In 2013, he signed for Adelaide United in the Australian League and has successful two years with the club. He was later appointed as the head coach of the Australia U-23 side. He was also the assistant coach of Australian men’s team in 2016.
“The idea this season was to bring in stability and get a Head Coach who shares a similar philosophy as the club and coach Gombau ticks all the right boxes,” Delhi Dynamos director Rohan Sharma said
