The elder brother Yuvraj Walmiki has been feliciated for his contribution to Indian hockey in 2014-15. Yuvraj has played Hockey World Cup 2014 in the blue jersey, he was also the part of team that won Asian Champions trophy in 2011. The elder Walmiki ravaged by injuries and bad luck, has found himself out of the team more often than in it and can be considered as an unlucky player to not make the permanent cut in Indian team. Thanks to Maharashtra government for considering his contribution to Indian hockey and honoring with Shiv Chhatrapati award.
The younger brother Devindar Walmiki has been feliciated for his contribution to Indian hockey in 2016-17. Devindar entered the fray with his impressive midfield duties for Kalinga Lancers in Hockey India League. He went on to play the Rio Olympics 2016 for India. He was also the part of silver winning team that participated in Hockey Champions trophy 2016.
Devindar shared a photo of his mother, holding Shiv Chhatrapati award of her two childrens. What a proud moment will be for a mother who raised her children despite being in grinding poverty. Two of four children born to Sunil Walmiki, a private driver and Meena Walmiki, a housewife. They spent their entire childhood and much of their life living in a Mumbai garage turned home that had no electricity, no water, no sanitation and no place even for a bed to sleep on. The two brothers have unfolded the magic with stick to improve the finances of their home and also bringing laurel to Indian hockey.
The photo indicates power of sports and the power of mother’s love that can transform any ordinary human to an award triumpher. This picture may reconstruct the thinking of Indian parents that any trophy or achievement by their offsprings, regardless of academics or sports, can bring immense happiness and joy to them.
