Celebrations were not done as England women’s team beat Mozambique at the Commonwealth Games, the England’s men thumped Cameroon. As the men’s team formed a huddle to celebrate their victory, England women’s player Georgia Jones stood courtside. The spectators were in anticipation of what is to happen next. Jamell Anderson and Georgia Jones get engaged on court
Video released by Team England showed the men’s team gathered in a post-game huddle while Jones watched on – having earlier contributed nine points to a 78-51 win over Mozambique. As the huddle opened out, Jones’ boyfriend Jamell Anderson who was in the men’s basketball team of England, was on one knee, holding an engagement ring. A shy but smiling Jones went forward and guess what, she said “yes”.
Asked why he chose that particular moment to propose, Anderson said: “We both worked so hard for this opportunity to be here.
“Basketball is a very big part of our relationship so it just made sense to do it here.”
“I only told them just now,” the 27-year-old Anderson said of getting his team-mates involved. “They initiated the plan really well, so that went perfectly.
“It’s been on my mind for a while, so now I can just play basketball.”
On being asked about the proposal Jones said,“I had absolutely no idea. He told me I was just getting a picture taken. I’m just in shock.”

The instances like these have been relatively common in the big sporting events, in the recent times. In Rio Olympics, Will Claye, an American track and field athlete, who won a silver medal in the triple jump, then climbed into the stands to propose to his girlfriend, hurdler Queen Harrison (who competed in Beijing in 2008 but didn’t qualify in Rio).
