Faf Du Plessis rules out of India series following a finger injury.

South African captain Faf du Plessis has been ruled out of the remaining India series due to a fractured finger. The injury concerns are not sparing the South African team, who earlier lost AB De Villiers for the starting three ODIs against India. This time its the turn of their captain Du Plessis, who is ruled out of the remainings 5 ODIs and T20 series.

Du Plessis picked the injury during the first ODI in Durban, which was eventually won by India, handing over a 6 wickets defeat to South Africa. He went through further medical examination, discovering a fracture in his right index finger. He may take three to six weeks to recover, confirmed a Cricket South Africa official.

Farhaan Behardien has been named as the replacement for Du Plessis, while Heinrich Klaasen comes in as a back-up wicketkeeper in place of injured AB De Villiers. Klaasen earns himself a maiden ODI call up.

Du Plessis will undergo a period of rest and rehabilitation with the aim of being fit for the first Test match against Australia starting in Durban on March 1st.

The South African captain was the lone warrior for his team in first ODI by notching a well made 120 that confirmed a respectable total for the Proteas. Loosing two main batsman who constitute to be the back-bone of South African batting line up may turn out to be a nightmare for the Ottis Gibson coached side.

Markram who came in as replacement for De Villiers, didn’t impressed and made 9 runs in first ODI. Now loosing Du Plessis in the middle order, may expose their batting order in the upcoming ODIs. The captain for the remaining ODI series will be announced on Saturday.
