Uttar Pradesh’s chief minister turned on political tensions after he termed Lord Hanuman as a “dalit” during the campaigning of BJP in Rajasthan’s Alwar. “Bajrang bali hamari bharatiya parampara mein ek aise lokdevta hain jo swayam vanvaasi hai, girvasi hain, Dalit hain, vanchit hai (Hanuman was a tribal, a forest dweller, a Dalit and was deprived) ,” said Yogi Adityanath.
Since then many leaders from BJP have went onto define the caste of the deity and former India cricketer and current sports minister of Uttar Pradesh- Chetan Chauhan has also jumped to discuss about the controversial topic.
Chauhan, 71, went onto say that Lord Hanuman was a sportsperson and his caste should not be discussed. The former cricketer who played 40 test for India said that many sports persons follow him for energy and power.
“I believe that he (Lord Hanuman) was a sportsman who use to wrestle with his enemies. All the sportsmen of our country worship him as they require power and energy like him to emerge victorious. The players do not worship him because of his caste.
“There is no caste of a Saint, there is no caste of a mystic and in the same way, we believe in Hanuman Ji. I consider him as God; I do not want him to get associated with some sought of caste,” Chetan Chauhan said.
