There have been a period of more than 11 years since India and Pakistan have not faced each other in red ball cricket and the possibilities of a full fledged series between the two nations looks more than uncertain. The relations between these two nations have been widely affected after the involvement of Pakistani terrorists in 2008 Mumbai attacks which has affected the cricket too.

Meanwhile, former India wicket-keeper batsman Farokh Engineer has counsel newly turned Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to use his political powers and restore the cricket tie between the two rivals.

Engineer hopeful of a India-Pakistan series

Engineer, 80, is hopeful of the former Pakistan captain bringing back both the teams to face each other in a bilateral series.

“Imran Khan, he is the prime minister now. Hopefully India and Pakistan will start a dialogue,” Engineer said. during the inaugural Ranji Memorial Public Conversation in London. “They should be playing Test cricket against each other because it will do Pakistan cricket, their economy, a world of good. But you hear about border skirmishes and this and that. They’ve got to have dialogue.

“Basically we are the same people. Both countries have extremely talented cricketers and I, for one, would love to see that happen but unfortunately the brakes are on,” Engineer said.
