A cricket match between India and Pakistan is not just a game but it is wrapped by the immense political tension between the two neighbours, the Kashmir conflict and winning the bragging rights over each other.
After Pulwama terror attack on 14 February 2019 that killed 40 army men, India did an air strike in Balakot district of Pakistan which reportedly killed 250 terrorists. Pakistan retaliated with its air force on the very next morning and engaged with the Indian air force in a dog fight which involved India’s wing commander Abhinandan Varthaman whose Mig 21 Bison was shot in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir(POK) and he was held captive by the Pakistani army for 60 hours. He was released at the Wagha-Attari Border on 1 March.
Several political tension, the Pulwama attack and the propaganda of insulting Abhinandan by Pakistan, hyped up the clash between the two neighbours in the world cup. India manage to win the game against men in green by 89 runs after which the Sarfaraz Ahmed led team faced the backlash from their fans. They were accused of eating burger, pizza and sweets ahead of the clash against India which made them unfit.
Amid all the criticism in Pakistan, a tweet of twitter user Ibn Sina has gone viral where several men are holding the flag of Pakistan and a banner which reads “WE DON’T WANT KASHMIR GIVE US VIRAT KOHLI.”
