The count down to the upcoming world cup has allready started with all the participating teams announcing their 15-man squad for the marquee tournament. Cricket experts and pundits allready started the build to the tournament by predicting the winner of the tournament and the majority think that India are England are the firm favourites to lift the cup.
Meanwhile, former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir has donned the prediction hat and said that defending champions Australia are the firm favourites to win the tournament and should ease their way into the semi-final. The men in yellow were the underdogs but a 3-2 ODI series win against India in India and clean sweeping Pakistan 5-0 in their familiar conditions of UAE made a strong statement about Australia’s contention.
“Australia are my first favourite. They should definitely play the final and their opposition in the final will be between two of my joint second-favourite teams, England and India,”Gambhir said.
Gambhir further mentioned that hosts England possess quality in their side which makes them another favourite to win the marquee tournament.
“Not because England are playing at home. Of late they are an improved side, having quality cricketers in almost all the positions. They are balanced. With Jofra Archer, England will be a force to reckon with. They are blessed with four genuine all-rounders, of which mentions should be made of Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali,” Gambhir added.
