Golden days of Indian hockey are certainly back

In a country where cricket has been creating all the buzz around, some other sports are also coming forward with stellar performance to get the support of the countrymen.

With PV Sindhu clinching an Olympic Silver, Indian Blind cricket team clinching the world cup, the rise of Deepa Karmakar and some world class shooters like Jeetu Rai rising to podium in Shooting World Cup, sports in India has certainly reached new heights beyond cricket.

Hockey is a sports that is producing stellar performances in the recent times, the likes of Sreejesh, Sardar Singh have already became a household names, with inclusion of the Dutchmen Roelant Oltmans as the coach, Indian hockey is certainly eyeing a glorious comeback.

Hockey India League has provided the best platform for the youngsters to come and perform at a greater stage with some world class players from around the world. The likes of Akashdeep Singh, Mandeep Singh are the best products, who have emerged from HIL.

With a stellar 4th rank finish in 2014 Champions trophy in Bhubaneshwar. Followed by a Gold in Asian Games by Defeating arch rivals Pakistan, 2014 Commonwealth Silver, defeating Australia in a test series, bronze in Hockey World League Finals,  2015 held at Raipur, Silver in 2016 Champions Trophy in England, reaching Quarter Finals of Rio Olympics after a whooping 36 years and finally by winning the Junior Hockey World cup(2016) after 15 years in Lucknow ensured that future of Indian hockey is in good hands.

With some young talents like Harmanpreet , Mandeep and Harjeet Singh’s Rise , one can expect Indian hockey to return to its Golden days.

However some Broadcasters must come forward and telecast every live match that India plays, motive should be to promote hockey and make every player name household, like cricket.

Government should also come forward and raise some funds for the game, bring the game to grassroot level for the budding players, provide good equipments at discounted rate, from some groups who select the hidden talents and send them to institutes like SAI, where they can learn the basics of the game in a better way. And if demanding so much more for this game is right or not… then in our opinion it is, as its our national game and should be treated above all the other games.

Hockey India is doing the best possible for the game, with Dr Narinder Batra becoming FIH President, the finest things for Indian hockey is yet to happen.
