Here's why Team India is wearing the black armbands in today's game

BJP stalwart and former finance minister Arun Jaitley passed away in AIIMS on Saturday after battling prolonged illness. Jaitley was a brilliant strategist in Narendra Modi’s first government but denied the ministerial role in his second term following his health issues. He also served as a lawyer and was a fond follower of cricket.

Team India members to don black armbands

Indian team is currently plying their trade in the first test against West Indies in Antigua, which marks the start of their World Test championship campaign. As a mark of respect to Arun jaitley, Team India will don the black armbands.

“Anirudh felt that the players should wear black armbands as a mark of respect for the man who played a pivotal role in BCCI administration and the board came together to back the idea,” A senior BCCI functionary said was quoted as saying by India.com.

The treasurer further said that it was a personal loss for him after losing Jaitley, who happens to be a former BCCI Vice-President.
