India’s limited overs opener Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have 16 century partnerships and are jointly second with the Aussie pair of Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden. In the first place are Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly, who have 21 century partnership together.
Sharma and Dhawan have been a pillar of strength for India ever since they started opening the batting since 2013 Champions trophy and didn’t look back from there on. The Mumbai-Delhi pair have won many matches for India single handedly and they continue to do so.
Former India fast bowler Irfan Pathan said that the pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma is successful because both play according to each other’s strength. This Indian opening pair has been batting brilliantly in limited overs cricket since 2013.
“We know Shikhar plays very freely. He gives time to Rohit Sharma. We all know how Rohit Sharma is able to change gears very quickly, but he takes time early on,” the Former India International said during ‘Cricket Connected’ show on Star Sports.
“In cricket you need someone at the other end to understand your strengths and weaknesses. Shikhar understands when Rohit Sharma needs time, for at least the few overs to get himself going. So, he used to take the charge and I think that’s what makes him successful.
And as soon as the spinners came and Rohit Sharma got settled, he took all the pressure away from Shikhar Dhawan, so that’s why the whole camaraderie really, really went on well for Team India for so many years,” Pathan added.
The time will only when the successful pair will reunite together to play for India again. The cricket action is halted due to rising coronavirus cases in India and there is no good news for the Indian cricket team fans in the near future.
